The Delta Club of UCSD was established during the winter quarter of 2007 as an interest group with aspirations of becoming the next chapter of the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta. Nick Sobel presided over the Delta Club as it held weekly meetings with only a few initial members. Steadily adding to their membership, the Delta Club grew to 21 members and was officially colonized by the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta on August 14, 2007. With Ken Sobel as the first Purple Legionnaire, the Alpha Class became fully immersed in the history and values of Phi Gamma Delta via a few weekend retreats coined as "Camp Fiji."

By December 2007, the Colony was officially a part of the UCSD InterFraternity Council. In their first two recruitment periods, the Chi Lambda Colony had the largest pledge classes in IFC, with 6 and 16 pledges for winter and spring, respectively. In May 2008, Chi Lambda reached out to the local graduate community with its first annual Norris Pig Dinner.

The start of the 2008-2009 school year brought 14 new members to the Chi Lambda Colony. As evidence of their ambitions, 85% of them received above a 3.0 during their pledge quarter. The Chi Lambda Colony also acquired two fully initiated brothers who had transferred to UCSD from two different chapters. Their membership has offered invaluable perspective and guidance to help us move toward our goal of chartering. Fall 2008 also marked our first Stussy Clothing Sale fundraiser which grossed over $2000 for the Colony's chartering fund.

The following quarter, Chi Lambda was recognized during the 2008 Greek Week Awards, receiving second place in scholarship and third place for overall chapter achievement. In addition, the Colony presented its own internal awards to individual brothers for outstanding performance within the Colony during the first Semi-Formal. Chi Lambda also won first Place in Sigma Kappa's Dancing With the Greeks Philanthropy and raised $400 for Alzheimer's Disease Research through associated ticket sales and donations. Winter 2008 also marked the first annual Chi Lambda Active/Grad Golf Tournament.

The Chi Lambda Colony acquired 15 new members from spring recruitment. The second Stussy Clothing Sale fundraiser grossed an additional $1500 towards our chartering fund. On May 16 Chi Lambda hosted its second Norris Pig Dinner to solicit additional graduate support and involvement. The Chi Lambda Colony of UCSD is currently in the process of submitting its Chartering Petition and has high hopes that it is met with approval by the Archonate and all the Chapters that make up this fine fraternity.
